En la antigüedad el matemático Thales de Mileto se le solicito determinar la altura de la pirámide de Keops, para ello el empleo la técnica de modelar la situación de la altura de la pirámide por medio de un bastón y las sombras que proyectaba el bastón y la pirámide, considerando que los rayos del sol se proyectaban en dicho lugar de forma paralela.
