To find the percentage of a number, we need to remember that percentage means \"out of $100$\". There are then several ways to find the answer.

\n

For part a:

\n

Method 1

\n

You can use the formula : $\\frac{Original Amount}{100}\\times Percentage$

\n

In this question, this will be $\\frac{\\var{b}}{100}\\times\\var{a} = \\var{ans}$

\n

Method 2

\n

We can use scaling to find the percentage.

\n

Find $50$% (which is half), $25$% (which is half of $50$%), $5$% (which is $25$% divided by $5$), and/or $1$% (which is the original divided by $100$).

\n

Using these values you can get to ANY percentage amount by then scaling up:

\n

e.g. $2$% = $1$%$\\times 2$, $7$% = $1$%$\\times 7$, $15$% = $5$%$\\times 3$, etc.

\n

For part c, we are removing $\\var{a}$% from the original amount. The original amount is $100$% of what we had so the new amount is $100 - \\var{a} = \\var{ans2}$%

\n

Similarly, for part d, we are adding $\\var{c}$% to the original amount. The original amount is $100$% of what we had so the new amount is $100 + \\var{c} = \\var{ans3}$%

\n

For part d, you can use the same methods as parts a and b but remember, as the percentage is greater than $100$ you should get an answer bigger than what we started with.
