Remember that when the equation of a straight line is written in the form $y=mx+c$, $m$ represents the gradient (or slope) of the graph and $c$ is the $y$-intercept, the value of $y$ when the graph crosses the $y$ axis.

A positive gradient tells us that the values of $y$ are increasing as $x$ increases so the graph slopes upwards going from left to right. If the gradient is negative, $y$ decreases as you go from left to right.
