Every mathematical expression has a clear evaluation based on the order in which we carry out a calculation.

The order is (from highest precedence to lowest precedence):

Brackets
Powers (Remember powers go from right to left eg $2^{{3}^{2}}=2^{9}=512$ and not $2^{{3}^{2}}=8^2=64$ )
Multiplication/Division
Addition/Subtraction

Simplify: $(\var{a}-\var{b})\times \var{c}+\var{d}\div{\var{f}}$ .
