To calculate the population standard deviation, $\sigma$, we can use the formula:

Population standard deviation, $\sigma = \sqrt{\frac{\Sigma (x-\text{mean})^2}{n}}$

(note this is slightly different to the formula used to calculate the sample standard deviation, $s$)

So we must:

Find the mean:
- mean = $\frac{(\var{data[0]}+\var{data[1]}+...)}{\var{x}}=\var{mean}$
subtract the mean individually from each of our values:
- we obtain $\var{data[0]}-\var{mean}=\var{data[0]-mean}$, $\var{data[1]}-\var{mean}=\var{data[1]-mean}$, etc.
square each result
- $(\var{data[0]-mean})^2=\var{(data[0]-mean)^2}$, $(\var{data[1]-mean})^2=\var{(data[1]-mean)^2}$, etc.
add up these results. This is the '$\Sigma (x-\text{mean})^2$' part in the formula
- $\var{(data[0]-mean)^2}+\var{(data[1]-mean)^2}+... = \var{x*var}$
divide by the number of values
- $\var{x*var} \div \var{x} = \var{var}$
finally, find the square root to obtain the standard deviation:
- $\sigma$= $\sqrt{\var{var}}=\var{precround(sigma,2)}$
