but you can convert any fraction to a decimal and then to a percentage and vice-versa without a calculator by doing the following:

Fraction to Decimal:

Divide the top number by the bottom number using the "bus stop" (Long division) method - see https://www.mathsisfun.com/long_division3.html for examples and practise

Decimal to Percentage:

Multiply your decimal by $100$ - remember this means moving the decimal place two places to the right

Percentage to Decimal:

Divide your percentage by $100$ - remember this means moving the decimal place two places to the left. If there is no decimal place in the percentage to start with then you put it at the end (e.g. 50% has no decimal place so it goes at the end - 50.%)

Decimal to Fraction

This is the trickiest one!

Firstly, the number of decimal places you have tells you the number of zeros of the bottom number on the fraction after a $1$ .

For example: $0.5$ has $1$ decimal place therefore the bottom number will be $10$

$0.25$ has $2$ decimal places therefore the bottom number will be $100$

$0.125$ has $3$ decimal places therefore the bottom number will be $1000$

Second, the numbers after the decimal place go on the top of the fraction.

For example: $0.5$ means it will be $5$ on top

$0.25$ means it will be $25$ on top

$0.125$ means it will be $125$ on top

Finally, you need to simplify your fraction as much as possible to get the final answer.

For example: $0.5 = \frac{5}{10} = \frac{1}{2}$

$0.25 = \frac{25}{100} = \frac{1}{4}$

$0.125 = \frac{125}{1000} = \frac{1}{8}$
