Question statement

How many ways can you choose $r$ distinct objects from $n$ possible objects?

The answer depends upon whether the order of selection is important.

If the order of selection is important, then the number of ways to choose $r$ objects from $n$ is called a permutation $P(n,r) = \dfrac{n!}{(n-r)!}$ .
If the order of selection is not important, then the number of ways to choose $r$ objects from $n$ is called a combination $C(n,r) = \dfrac{n!}{(n-r)!r!}$ .

The NUMBAS syntax for $P(n,r)$ and $C(n,r)$ is perm(n,r) and comb(n,r).
