Christian Lawson-Perfect on Fill in the gaps in an arithmetic sequence 8 years, 4 months ago

Saved a checkpoint:

Extracted from a bigger question.

Changed the second sequence so the common difference is negative, and randomsied the starting indices of both sequences.

Rewrote the advice so it's simpler.

Christian Lawson-Perfect on Find common difference in arithmetic sequences with gaps 8 years, 4 months ago

Saved a checkpoint:

Copied from a larger question.

Rejigged the variables so that the same common difference doesn't occur more than once, and the start index for each sequence is randomised.

Added a new part a where all the terms are given.

Currently does not say which colour is the original image is. This is due to changing the colours to patterns so that colour blind people can also use the question. I tried to do this in another question in Inkscape and was having trouble so may need help with that.
As a note it is the blue image that is the original for future reference.

Christian Lawson-Perfect on Complete the square and find solutions 8 years, 4 months ago

Saved a checkpoint:

Extracted this from a bigger question on completing the square, and changed the variables so the roots are always nice integers.

Christian Lawson-Perfect on Completing the square 8 years, 4 months ago

Saved a checkpoint:

I've split the last part, which asked you to find solutions after completing the square, into a separate question.

I moved the "Write the following expression in the form ..." text into the statement, because it's repeated for every part.

The advice now begins with a concise description of completing the square, which means the advice for the individual parts can just show how it's done.

The marking uses string restrictions, which just about does the job - you'd have to give a pretty artifical answer to get away with not completing the square - but it would be better if it did pattern-matching.

Saved a checkpoint:

It works!

I've rejigged the advice - each part's advice now begins with a description of the common factors, and I've been very careful about the use of brackets so that it's obvious what "pulling outside the brackets" means.

Thanks for your feedback Christian, i have changed part a to a "what's your opinion" question and awarded it no marks. Also i have added an extra part before this question asking the student to calculate the experimental probabilities of tossing heads for coin 1 and coin 2.
