Transition to university

This question assesses the students ability to find the expected number of times an event occurs given the probability of the event occurring for a single trial and the total number of trials.

This question provides a list of data to the student. They are asked to find the mean, median, mode and range.

This question tests the students ability to calculate the area of different 2D shapes given the units and measurements required. The formulae for the areas are available if required but students are encouraged to try to remember them themselves.

The shapes are: a rectangle, a parallelogram, a right-angled triangle, and a trapezium.

Basic probability skills involving coins, dice and other events with equally likely outcomes.

Apply the factor and remainder theorems to manipulate polynomial expressions

A fill-in-the-blank style question to test vocabulary within the topic of Algebra.

Questions on rearranging expressions, expanding brackets and collecting like terms.

Use a piecewise linear graph of speed against time to find the distance travelled by a car.

Finally, use the total distance travelled to find the average speed.

This question provides an example of an initial bank account investment with a fixed return and tests the student's understanding of an application of intercepts.

Addition and subtraction of integers and decimals.

Manipulate fractions in order to add and subtract them. The difficulty escalates through the inclusion of a whole integer and a decimal, which both need to be converted into a fraction before the addition/subtraction can take place. 

Decide whether statements about square and cube numbers are always true, sometimes true or never true.
