Saved a checkpoint:

Couldn't resist changing the weight to be picked from a normal distribution. I got massive weights a bit too often.

Otherwise, this is really good!

Saved a checkpoint:

After being "fixed", the statement was incorrect: the first two items were for only eating cereal or toast, so the probability of eating either is the sum of all three items. This isn't what was intended.

After lots of back and forth, I think we've settled on a wording that works. I've changed the statement to give a table with five options, adding up to over 100%, to make it clear that the percentages include people who selected more than one option.

This was an extraordinarily easy question, and still is, though being a bit of a supermarket bargain guru, it is the sort of mental arithmetic I find myself doing all the time, so have made some modifications and given it a stay of execution.

I've changed this considerably, so am not marking it ready to use.

Saved a checkpoint:

I've reworded the options so it's more clear what the two events are.

This isn't a great question - I'd prefer more examples and clearer pairs of events, but it'll do.

Christian Lawson-Perfect on The probability of an event not happening - five friends play mini golf 8 years, 4 months ago

Saved a checkpoint:

Split the first part, about basketball, into a separate question.

Added random names.

Changed the randomisation of the probabilities so that everyone is pulled from the same distribution (apart from the missing person, who accumulates the error when the probablities for the others are rounded off)

Saved a checkpoint:

Split off from a bigger question.

Changed the storm to an electrical fault, so it's more plausibly instantaneous.

Improved some of the wording in the advice.

I've changed the wording to be, I think, clearer. I've not marked it ready to use, as I would be grateful for a second opinion.

I've added random names, but otherwise this is good.

This is a good question.

I've changed the titles of the films to randomly-generated ones because (a) they were a bit stereotypically boy-heavy and (b) they'll really date this question. There's also (c) are we allowed to use trademarks?
